White Chocolate Spider Cookies

Along came a Spider Cookies

1 package Great Value Devils Food Cookie Cakes
1 package good white chocolate, melted
1 package mini red M&M's
Pretzel sticks

Melt chocolate in microwave for 30 seconds, stir and repeat until chocolate is melted. If you use white chocolate chips, follow the direction on the package. You will need to add some shortening.

Dip cookie tops and sides in white chocolate and place on wax paper. Break pretzels in half and insert four legs on each side of spider body. Give your spider some red eyes or any color you wish.

You can also use Red Hot candies and black licorice rope for legs :)

I think white Spiders are the CReepIESt so that's why we dipped ours.

Buttermilk Brownie Cake

Buttermilk Brownie Cake

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Frosting

1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 pound powdered sugar
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Combine sugar, flour and cocoa. Set aside.

In medium saucepan, combine water with oil and butter. Bring to a boil; add to flour mixture and mix well. Add buttermilk, baking soda, eggs and vanilla. Mix well and pour into greased 15x10 inch baking pan.

Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out almost clean.

Cool completely on wire rack.

For frosting, combine butter, cocoa and buttermilk in saucepan. Bring to a boil, remove from heat. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla until combined.

Spread frosting over cooled brownies.

Cut in 48 pieces and serve. Cockroaches are optional and highly recommended for Halloween :)

Hot Apple Cinnamon Cider

Hot Apple Cinnamon Cider

1/2 gallon apple cider
3 cinnamon sticks
2 oranges, sliced

Add mixture to large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.

 

Holiday Slush Punch

This is the BEST punch!

Do yourself a favor and make some tonight, pop it in the freezer and enjoy it for Hallow's Eve!

Holiday Slush Punch

6 cups water
1 1/2 to 2 cups sugar
1 46 ounce can pineapple juice
4 cups orange juice
2 3 ounce boxes strawberry jello mix
2/3 cup lemon juice
2 2 liter bottles lemon-lime soda
gallon freezer bags

Bring water, sugar and jello to a boil. Boil and stir for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.

Stir in pineapple juice, lemon juice and orange juice.

Divide mixture in two 1 gallon freezer bags. Freeze overnight.

Take out of freezer about 1 to 1 1/2 hours before your party and place in punch bowl. Pour one 2 liter bottle of lemon-lime soda in punch bowl, stir until slushy.

Repeat with remaining slushy mixture :)

Garnish with orange slices if desired.

Halloween Cinnamon Sugar Crustos

 

I remember when I was little, my sister Susie would make us the BEST sugar crustos.

You can use your favorite pie crust recipe or ready made. This is one of my favorites from the Good Housekeeping Cookbook.

Pie Crust

2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
3/4 cups shortening
5 to 6 TB cold water

Combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening with pastry blender, adding water gradually.

Shape in ball and cover with saran wrap, refrigerate 1 hour.

On floured surface roll out pie crust and cut out shapes using cookie cutters.

Place on cookie sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake 425 degrees for 7-8 minutes or until edges just begin to brown.

Susie always made us the long thick strips and lots of sugar and cinnamon :)
