I have had this recipe in my recipe book for exactly 21 years.
What's that saying......good things come to those who wait?
I'm not sure why they are called Homemade Oreos. I would think something more like Chocolate Cream Cheese Cookie Sandwiches or something to do with a Whoopie Pie would be more fitting :)
Doesn't really matter because they are Delicious!
1 box pudding in the mix devils food cake mix
3/4 cup shortening
Combine cake mix, eggs and shortening until well combined.
Roll into 1" balls and bake 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until done.
I noticed that when my cookies started to "crack" a little, they were almost done. I then left them on the cookies sheet for 3 minutes and then transferred to a wire rack to cool completely.
1 8 ounce cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
1 pound powdered sugar
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
In small bowl, combine butter and cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla until well combined and fluffy.
Divide your cookies in half. Fill a pastry bag or zip lock baggy with corner snipped off and squeeze filling onto wrong side of half of your cookies. Top right side up with the remaining cookies and press lightly.
Instant Oreos, Chocolate Cream Cheese Cookies or Whoopie Pies......whatever you want to call them :)
Speaking of Oreos.......Maisey sure did miss us while we were in Seattle.
